Members of the Uganda Hotel owners Association told to get ISO certification

Uganda’s Tulavo, a travel tech company working with local hotels in Uganda has called upon members of the Uganda Hotel owners Association to consider getting ISO certification.

Speaking to the media in Mukono on Tuesday, Stephen Okhutu, the CEO at Tulavo advised that for Ugandan hotels to favourably compete with foreign brands, the culture of delivering quality as expected by the travellers should be put at the forefront.

Okhutu who is a retired journalist is the founder of the Tulavo now rated among the fastest growing hotel booking platforms in Uganda.

Uganda has been on several occasions rated among the best tour destinations in the world. The image has however been affected by negative publicity sponsored by the opposition politics by people who are believed to be using Ugandans for their selfish gains.

“Amidst negative publicity against Uganda, we should work on improving our quality of services” Okhutu advised. He said that number of hotels businesses that are failing is increasing in Uganda attributing this to poor quality services and the failure to embrace modern technological advancement.

Tulavo offers free marketing services and hotel automation to Uganda hotel owners whose room rates are below $100 per night.

The platform has partnered with different development partners including GIZ and UNWTO to promote local tourism in East Africa.
